I checked the foyer and then the kitchen, where I found him standing with a glass in his hand and his buttons taken apart. Okxxx “Be home in an hour,” is what my husband’s text said, and even though I had fallen for it a hundred times before, I put on that green chemise he liked, because he thought it brought out my eyes. “Can I help you?” she asked, covering her eyes from the bright morning sun. I laid back on the table, drawing little circles on my belly button, while I leaked onto the kitchen table. “We only have sparkling water. Perfect.”
As if by providence, another knock came at the door. “When did you say your husband would be back?”
“He told me within the hour and that was a while ago.
